Düsseldorf: Lively and lovely city on the Rhine
Düsseldorf on the Rhine is the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populated Federal State in Germany. When it comes to the quality of life, Düsseldorf is one of the world’s leading cities. This is the reason why not only more and more inhabitants really like it here, but the visitors as well. With more than three million overnight stays and many millions of daily guests, Düsseldorf is a popular travel destination.
Düsseldorf is famous worldwide because of its unique shopping possibilities on the glamorous Königsallee, in the historical Altstadt (Old Town) and in the pulsating, trendy districts of Flingern, Oberkassel or Unterbilk. Also at night the Altstadt (Old Town) never sleeps: With approximately 260 restaurants, bars and pubs, it is proclaimed to be the „longest bar in the world“ and it is the home of „Alt“beer – a real Düsseldorf specialty. As yet another nightlife district, the stylish media harbour has made a name for itself – with its leaning Gehry buildings and other architectural highlights by international star architects. With the new "Hop on Hop off tours", the Düsseldorf sights can be experienced comfortably and barrier-free. In summer, the shooters (brotherhoods) organise traditional parades with horses. At the same time, the largest fun fair on the Rhine tempts the masses of visitors with rides on a looping roller coaster, a Ferris wheel, a rapid white water ride and on the roundabout. At Whitsun, hundreds of thousands swing at Germany’s largest Jazz festival, the Jazz Rally. And on Japan Day, pyro-technicians from the Far East light a magnificent display of “picture” fireworks.
