Heinrich-Heine-Institut - The Heinrich-Heine-Institute, with its archive, its library, its museum as well as its events, is a centre for international Heine research and for multifaceted literary and cultural mediation. With its many activities, it reaches out to a public that is interested in literature and cultural history. Worldwide it is the only museum for the poet Heinrich Heine – born in Düsseldorf in 1797.

KIT, Kunst im Tunnel (Art in the tunnel) -  Under the  Rhine embankment promenade - in a space, which is located between the tunnel tubes for car traffic and which was unused until 2006 — a spectacular meeting place for contemporary art has been created with KIT (Kunst im Tunnel).

The Museum K20 Kunstsammlung am Grabbeplatz has been a popular location for events for many years. With the opening of K21 Kunstsammlung im Ständehaus in April 2002, Düsseldorf has acquired not only a new museum for contemporary art, but also an extremely attractive site for events.

Museum Kunst Palast - The collections of museum kunst palast impress by their wide diversity. They incorporate formidable works of old art, as well as a considerable collection of works of art of the 19th century, a large number of which represents the Dusseldorf School of Painting. Of equal significance are the paintings of Classical Modernism and the collection of contemporary art, which was commenced following World War II. Further highlights include the internationally-acclaimed collection of Prints and Drawings incorporating a large number of significant hand drawings of Italian Baroque, as well as the Hentrich Glass Museum.

Stadtmuseum – The Stadtmuseum (City Museum) is the oldest museum in Düsseldorf and its permanent collection shows the history, culture and art of the city of Düsseldorf and the region. An important focal point of the collection is Düsseldorf in the period of the Duchies Jülich-Kleve-Berg, from the 14th to the 16th century. Further focal points of the collection are the industrialisation and the cultural history during the 19th century, the period of the Düsseldorf art scene during the Weimar Republic, Düsseldorf during the period of National Socialism and Düsseldorf after 1945.

Düsseldorf’s “NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft” shows changing exhibitions illustrating topical issues against specific cultural backgrounds. These include exhibitions of photography, media, fashion, communications, architecture, mobility or lifestyle. A special focus of the NRW-Forum is on photography and new media, as is reflected in exhibitions featuring the work of Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton, Anton Corbijn and Miwa Yanagi and the aesthetics of video. Another focus is on fashion, with exhibitions dedicated to Alexander McQueen, Manolo Blahnik or Vivienne Westwood.
